Learn how to define and review data required data for application

Data quality measures how well your dataset meets the data requirements for accuracy, completeness, validity, consistency, and uniqueness. Within School Passport, you can set data requirements for Import applications only. The data requirements for Export applications are determined by the Vendor.
What are data requirements?
Data requirements are prescribed agreements that define which data are required for your SIS or Export (Vendor) application for its proper use. Also, requirements determine what action should be taken when data quality issues arise.
Data requirements are necessary as a prerequisite to measure data quality. Thus, they serve as a reference that defines the desired data state.
Requirements
District Admin or Primary District Admin permissions are required.
Set data requirements
You cannot set data requirements for Export applications as they are configured on the application (Vendor) side. Please ensure that your data meets Vendor requirements to avoid processing issues. For more details, see Data Requirements for EdTech Vendors.
For data sources and SISes:
- Go to the Import application that you want to set data requirements for.
- Click Settings on the top right.
- Go to the Data Requirements tab.
- Choose an entity you want to set data requirements.
- For the data attribute:
- Select Required if this attribute is required for your organization. If this data is imported with blank value, it will be skipped in import and will be flagged in the Data Quality as Skipped.
- Select Report if missing if you want to be notified of data imported with blank values. This data will NOT be skipped during import and will be flagged in the Data Quality as Errors.
- Click Save.
Analyze data requirements for Vendor application
Checking the data requirements of a Vendor application is essential for understanding its data needs. To do so, go to the application dashboard > Data Quality and click Show Data Requirements. Also, you can view the data requirements for Vendor applications directly from this article.
