School Passport offers Face ID as a multi-factor authentication (MFA) factor. This feature uses camera-based face recognition technology to ensure secure access.

Face ID as an MFA factor is recommended for younger students for its user-friendly and quick access, simplifying the login process for them. For more details on other authentication factors, refer to this article.

Requirements

  • Primary District Admin permissions are required.
  • Activate at least one of the supported third-party IDPs.
  • Your device must have a camera for Face ID use.

Limitations

  • Available only for teachers and students login.
  • Uses only as a second authentication factor.
  • Face ID performance can change based on camera angle and environment, so it might not always work perfectly in every situation.

Activate the Face ID authentication factor

  1. Navigate to Connect > Administration > Login Methods > Passport Login.
  2. (If Passport Login disabled) Turn on the Activate School Passport Login toggle.
  3. For users, you want to activate Face ID:
    • In the First Factor, select the primary method of authentication.
    • In the Second Factor, select Face ID.
    • (Optional) In the Grace Period, set a time during which teachers can access their accounts without needing to complete the MFA. If empty, MFA will be required for each login.
  4. Click Save.

After logging in with the first authentication factor, users should also log in with Face ID. Once this is complete, users will have access to the School Passport.

Reset Face ID

You can simply reset Face ID for students in two ways:

  • From Connect, go to Data Browsing, locate students to reset Face ID, and go to the Access Management tab. Then click Reset Face ID. If the button is missing, user has not set up face yet.
  • From the main page go to ID Card Administration Tool, select school, and locate students to reset Face ID. Then click three-dots > Reset Face ID.
