Benefits

How it works

Privacy Governance Console (PGC) is a GG4L tool that helps school district administrators evaluate and find various EdTech products and services used by their rostered students. It provides information on privacy policies and the use of Personally Identifiable Information (PII) for thousands of EdTech apps, keeping users informed about privacy standards and compliance.

A key capability of the PGC is that it gives district administrators insights into how EdTech apps are used and the potential risks involved. They can access detailed reports on privacy policies and PII usage, which helps them manage compliance. Additionally, the PGC includes advanced AI tools for reporting on application PII usage and privacy policies, allowing administrators to make informed decisions and keep the educational environment secure.

To use PGC, admins must activate the Privacy Governance Console app with their School Passport and then deploy the Privacy Governance Console Browser Extension within their district. For details, see how to deploy Privacy Governance Console for your organization.

Benefits

Discovering unapproved EdTech apps

PGC will uncover PII risks within your organization. By identifying which applications and users are responsible for the PII risks, you can better secure your organization’s data.

PII monitoring

PGC allows District Admins to track PII statistics across applications. By providing real-time insights, PGC helps organizations maintain a clear understanding of their PII landscape.

PII management

PGC simplifies the organization and categorization of applications through PII tags. By efficiently managing these tags, admins can ensure better oversight of data privacy within their organization.

Usage analysis

With PGC, admins can identify the most and least used applications, enabling them to detect potential PII leaks and unnecessary costs. It empowers organizations to make informed decisions about application usage.

How it works

  1. The user accesses an EdTech-focused application or website.
  2. The Privacy Governance Console Extension detects the user's activity, collecting information about the applications and websites visited by the student.
  3. The Privacy Governance Console Extension forwards the usage to the Privacy Governance Console.
  4. The Privacy Governance Console evaluates collected data and updates application/website information.
  5. District Admin reviews PII usage data and potential risks for detected EdTech applications within their district.
