Supporting Grade Sync Service (GSS) to Skyward, educators gain access to Skyward Gradebook, which provides a wide range of flexible grading options tailored to suit the diverse grading methods commonly used in education. GSS supports various grading scales, including traditional percentage-based, points-based, and standards-based grading. This flexibility allows teachers to align their grading practices with their instructional goals and reporting requirements.

What is Skyward Gradebook?
Skyward Gradebook is a digital tool designed for educators to manage and track student grades, assignments, and academic progress. Skyward Gradebook consists of three core entities: Line Items, Category, and Results. For more details, see Skyward Gradebook Teacher Guide.
Setup GSS
To use GSS, you should activate a new Skyward app in 2-way-Sync mode.
- Sign in to School Passport and click Connect.
- Activate a new Skyward application from the Application Gallery or via the link.
- In the Sync Mode, click 2-Way Sync.
- In the Delivery Config:
- Service URL: URL where your API is accessible for your Skyward instance.
- OAuth Client ID and OAuth Client Secret: Use to connect to Skyward Native API.
- (Optional) Customize other steps. It is not required for the successful operation of GSS.
- In the Master Fields, create merging rules to a correct grade exchange between Vendor`s app and Skyward. For more about grade exchange, see Manage Master Fields for Grade Exchange.
- Click Finish Configuration.
- Run sync. Once finished, the gradebook data will be visible in your School Passport.
- Go to the Data Browsing > Gradebook to review gradebook import results.
Gradebook IDs in School Passport
Skyward Id is a special identifier assigned to each gradebook entity within the School Passport. It helps to accurately identify and track categories, line items, and results within the gradebook. Skyward ID can be found on the gradebook entity detail page in the Identifiers panel. Skyward Id format:
- Categories: category SIS ID.
- Line Items: line item SIS ID.
- Results: XXX#ZZZ, where XXX - line item SIS ID and ZZZ - student SIS ID.
What next
After completing the synchronization process, you have the option to configure gradebook attribute mappings for the Skyward app in the Settings > Attribute Mappings.
